The Wife of the President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Elizabeta Gjorgievska, attended and addressed today the celebration of the International Day of Rural Women, an event organized by the National Federation of Farmers and the Network for Rural Development of North Macedonia, with the support of the Swedish development organization “We Effect”, took place in Demir Kapija, in the Royal Winery Maria.
The Wife of the President, Elizabeta Gjorgievska, in her address said that achieving full equality of rural women in society by ensuring social development, economic independence, support for female leadership and community development through the potential and perspective of rural women is a necessity at the global level.
She said that rural women, who traditionally feed the family, play a key role in providing households with food and are the basis of the rural economy, working as farmers, seasonal workers and rural entrepreneurs. Gjorgievska said that it is necessary to highlight the need for economic empowerment of rural women, their greater involvement in the creation of agricultural policies, as well as the joint fight against discrimination and traditional barriers that are often an obstacle to the education and development of rural women.
The President’s Wife in the address expressed her support and commitment to building a gender-sensitive society and equal participation of women from rural areas in every life and social segment.
A public discussion was also held, titled “Role of rural women in the economic development of rural areas”, which promoted success stories of rural women and their businesses.
