President Stevo Pendarovski received today the Director of the Secretariat of the SEE Transport Community, Matej Zakonjsek.
The meeting focused on the integration of the Western Balkan countries into the EU transport market, which requires implementation of reforms and adoption of EU law.
Director Zakonjsek briefed President Pendarovski on the work of the SEE Transport Community Secretariat and on the segments related to transport and mobility, such as road safety, investment and road and rail reforms, as well as trade facilitation. He pointed to the introduction of Green Corridors in the Western Balkans during the Covid-19 pandemic as one of the key activities, in order to facilitate the flow of goods crucial to dealing with the pandemic, and explained the efforts to extend this concept to borders with EU countries.
At the meeting, President Pendarovski stressed that the Republic of North Macedonia is fully committed to fulfilling the European agenda and said that investing in a quality and efficient transport system is of great importance for the development of the economy and higher quality of the life of citizens.
The meeting also discussed the EU economic investment plan for the Western Balkans and the involvement of this international organization in the process of reviewing applications submitted by regional partners to improve and complete the trans-European corridors, which stretch across the region.
