President Stevo Pendarovski received today the Regional Director of the United Nations for Europe and Central Asia, Gwi-Yeop Son.
The meeting discussed the political developments in the country, the regional initiatives and cooperation, as well as the engagement of the United Nations in the region.
President Pendarovski and the UN Regional Director exchanged opinions on the enlargement policy of the European Union with the countries of the Western Balkans and on the dynamics of the accession negotiations of North Macedonia. In that direction, the reform processes, the importance of the National Development Strategy and MKD2030, which were developed and are being implemented with the support of the UN Development Program (UNDP), were emphasized.
President Pendarovski expressed satisfaction with the overall cooperation with the agencies and bodies of the United Nations in the country, with the aim of implementing the long-term development priorities of North Macedonia, building the institutional capacities and successful implementation of reforms in several key areas.
The interlocutors also exchanged opinions on the consequences caused by the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, as well as on the threats posed by fake news and propaganda.
