President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova received a delegation of the Macedonian Alliance for European Integration from the Republic of Albania, led by its President, Vasil Sterjovski.
Representatives of the only political party of Macedonians in Albania pointed out, with serious concern, the situation of the Macedonian minority, emphasizing that they are facing propaganda and attempts at assimilation that threaten their national and cultural identity.
They expressed dissatisfaction with the attitude of Albanian institutions towards them, both at the state and local level, emphasizing that insufficient protection and support place this community in a precarious position exposed to permanent pressures.
They requested greater participation of the Macedonian authorities, as well as their assistance in overcoming the big problems they face. They openly expressed their position on the absence of a state strategy for protecting the position of Macedonians in Albania.
In the talks, they informed the President about the party’s previous initiatives, as well as the planned activities towards strengthening their national and cultural identity.
President Siljanovska-Davkova expressed understanding for the deteriorating situation of the Macedonian minority in Albania.
She reaffirmed the need for a strategic approach in resolving the status and protecting the rights of the Macedonian minority in Albania, in accordance with European and international documents.
