President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova participated in the event “Global Women’s Breakfast 2025”, which was held at the Institute of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics in Skopje, titled “Connecting for a Sustainable Future”.
“Global Women’s Breakfast 2025” is organized by the Society of Chemists and Technologists of Macedonia, within the framework of the IUPAC initiative (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry). It was held on the occasion of February 11 – International Day of Girls and Women in Science.
The event, besides the President, was addressed by: Prof. Dr. Natasha Ristovska, Head of the Institute of Chemistry, Prof. Dr. Marina Stefova, from the Institute of Chemistry, Prof. Dr. Svetlana Mojsov, from Rockefeller University, New York (via video) and the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Petra Drexler.
In her address, President Siljanovska-Davkova emphasized the importance of strengthening the role of women in science and society for world peace and development, wishing that a woman would stand at the helm of the United Nations, 80 years after its founding. Emphasizing women’s difficult and thorny path in science, she recalled the words of Marie Sklodowska-Curie: “Life is not easy for any of us, but so what? We must have perseverance and, above all, confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained”.
She described the time behind us and during us as masculine, hostile and military, dictated by the god Mars, and called for a new, peaceful age, led by Venus, by Athens, with an olive branch, not with weapons.
In the spirit of a sustainable future, she pointed to the relevance of Michel Serra’s “Natural Contract”, concluded between man and the Earth as inseparable and equal partners.
Emphasizing that there is no sustainable future without solving environmental problems, she informed that for the first time she has included a climate change expert in the Security Council, Professor Dr. Vlado Spiridonov, who will lead the Advisory Body on Climate Challenges and Security, composed of exceptional experts on this issue, who, in the talks with representatives of environmental organizations, will help create solutions to deal with pollution and climate change.
The spiritual character of the breakfast was given special weight by the world-renowned American professor of Macedonian origin, Svetlana Mojsov from Rockefeller University, New York, USA, who acquaint the attendees with her journey to the science peaks via video.
