Traditional friendship, mutual support and understanding, as well as the common strategic goal of EU membership characterize Macedonian-Montenegrin relations, was the conclusion of today’s meeting between President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, in Cetinje.

The presidents discussed the European perspective of the Western Balkans, the challenges that each of the countries faces on the integration path, as well as the possibilities for overcoming them.

Pointing out that Montenegro is a leading country in the negotiation process with the EU, Milatovic expressed strong support for every step taken in Macedonian integration.

Today’s joint participation in the Balkan Integration Forum 2025, for him, is a recognition of the European interest in the region and an excellent opportunity to share experiences.

As a supporter of the regional approach to European integration through mutual cooperation and support, the President emphasized the importance of building good neighborly relations with open and honest dialogue, avoiding the veto.

Siljanovska-Davkova pointed out that as long as we are required to fulfill additional conditions, beyond the Copenhagen criteria, there will be a danger of disrespecting the basic values and principles of the EU, without which it is reduced to a political and bureaucratic machinery.

At the meeting, Siljanovska-Davkova extended an invitation to Milatovic for a return official visit to the country, which he gladly accepted.

Both presidents visited the Museum of King Nikola in Cetinje.
