President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received Ognen Karagjozovski, President, Filip Filipovski, Vice President of the Galicnik Local Community, and Dejan Petrovski, Director of “Galicka Svadba”.
Accepting the proposal to be the patron of the traditional event “Galihka Svadba” this year as well, she emphasized the importance of nurturing unique Macedonian customs, as an integral part of the Macedonian national identity.
Galicnik, with its rare natural beauty, original architecture, rich history and authentic culture, can be a tourist magnet and a desired tourist destination not only during the Galicnik Wedding days, but also throughout the year.
Representatives of the local community informed the President about the ambitious plans and projects for the revival of Galicnik, indicating the necessary steps and activities for that purpose. The reconstruction of the road from the village of Jance to Galicnik and the renovation of the once famous bakery, more than a century old, are necessary prerequisites for normal village life. The restoration of the house of Gjorgjija Pulevski and its transformation into a museum will revive the memory of the famous village of which the residents were proud and others envied. The revival of the skills of cooking, cheese making, weaving, embroidery, knitting, and carpentry can attract the interest of many well-wishers who are escaping the noise and chaos of modern city life.
Ensuring the passability of the road from Mavrovo to Galicnik from late autumn to early spring, despite the large snowdrifts, will allow the residents of Galicnik, but also all lovers of the snowy idyll and peace, an escape into the endless whiteness and unique enjoyment of the mountain landscapes.
Touched by the inspiring ideas for the development of Galicnik as an exceptional tourist destination, Siljanovska-Davkova expressed her readiness to lobby and participate in organizing events for financial support of the projects.
“Galicnik Wedding” can turn into an event above events, a moment to remember and tell stories, an artistic act in which everyone will want to participate. Of course, the manifestation “Galicnik Wedding” will also traditionally be held this year on the holiday of Petrovden, from 11 to 13 July.
