President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received the Letters of Credence of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines, Giovanni Endencia Palec, resident in Athens.
Siljanovska-Davkova stressed the importance of relations and cooperation with the Philippines both bilaterally and multilaterally. Both countries should focus on intensifying political dialogue, utilizing the potential in the economy and trade, developing cultural ties and stimulating scientific and educational exchange and tourism.
Emphasizing that we live in a time of challenges and real threats to global peace and security, as well as a tendency to solve problems with the use of force, the President stressed the necessity of active cooperation within the United Nations and other relevant international organizations and forums, in the spirit of multilateralism.
Assessing today’s ceremony as historic, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Palec said that the meeting is a special not only for him, but also for both countries, as concrete steps are being taken to establish closer relations.
He said that although formal diplomatic relations are at an early stage, they are based on shared values and principles, respect for human rights, the rule of law and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
Following the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2021, Ambassador Palec is the first to hold this responsible position in the country, which, Siljanovska-Davkova concluded, makes him part of the history of the Macedonian-Philippine relations.
