On the occasion of November 5, the World Day of the Romani Language, President Siljanovska-Davkova received today representatives of the Roma community: high school students from Skopje, media and educational workers, as well as poets.

The locutors reached a consensus on the need for codification of the Romani language, opening a department for the Romani language and enabling Roma students to study the Romani language not only in schools in Skopje, but also throughout the republic.

During the event, part of the preface to the first Romani grammar by Shaip Jusuf was read. Verses from the “White Roads” by the author Selim Azis were also read. Author Safet Kamber read verses from the “Word of the Soul”, including these: “Kana ka dikhe chorole sijam, numaj ki atma phiravaja barvalipe. Kamipe bizo sharti isi amen thaj sakoneske daja ole”. (“We are poor in appearance, but we carry wealth in our souls. We have unconditional love and we give it to everyone”).

The President expressed particular satisfaction that the first grammar of the Romani language, which is of invaluable value to millions of Roma around the world, was created on the Macedonian soil by Professor Shaip Jusuf.

She sent a message to the students to love, respect and learn the Romani language, as an irreplaceable Romani homeland.
