President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received the Letters of Credence of the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Korea resident in Sofia, Kim Dongbae.
Welcoming Ambassador Dongbae, she expressed satisfaction with the friendly relations and constructive cooperation between the two countries, following the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2019. She assessed that there is a will and commitment to exploit the potential and intensify cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
The President pointed out the importance of developing cooperation, emphasizing that the Korean economy offers great opportunities for partnership in several areas, especially in information technology, digitalization and renewable energy sources, while our country, with its strategic location in the heart of the Balkans, offers favorable conditions for Korean investors and companies.
She expressed confidence and readiness for further development of cooperation on multilateral level, especially within the framework of the United Nations. Small and medium-sized countries, in her opinion, should act united, can offer knowledge and deserve to have a stronger role in decision-making on global issues.
Both stressed the need to work together to open resident embassies in Skopje and Seoul.
Siljanovska-Davkova, in the spirit of the principle of reciprocity, requested abolition of visas for Macedonian citizens, given the fact that they are removed for citizens of the Republic of Korea.
Ambassador Dongbae assessed that after the establishment of diplomatic relations six years ago, the two countries have become successful partners and expressed readiness for their deepening and expansion. He indicated the development of economic cooperation as a priority in his work.
President Siljanovska-Davkova extended her congratulations on the election of Lee Jae-myung as the new President of the Republic of Korea in yesterday’s presidential elections.
She wished Ambassador Kim Dongbae success in carrying out his responsible diplomatic mission.
