With the highest state and military honors, President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova welcomed the Slovak President, Peter Pellegrini, who is on a two-day official visit to the country.
After the tete-a-tete meeting, a plenary meeting of the Macedonian and Slovak delegations was held.
The interlocutors pledged to promote bilateral relations, deepen economic cooperation, accelerate the Macedonian and regional European integration process and take urgent steps to improve European and global security.
Both confirmed the excellent cooperation, founded on the common spiritual heritage, cultural closeness and sincere friendship.
The President thanked the Slovak President for his continued support for the Macedonian membership in the European Union, reiterating that the enlargement process must be based on the Copenhagen criteria, without additional bilateral conditions.
In view of the numerous global challenges, the Presidents point to the need for greater trust, solidarity and unity of states and nations within the framework of the EU, NATO and the United Nations.
At the meeting with President Pellegrini, Siljanovska-Davkova expressed regret for yesterday’s train accident in Slovakia, in which around 100 people were injured, and wished them a speedy recovery.
During President Pellegrini’s visit, the Macedonian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Timcho Mucunski, and the State Secretary at the Slovak Ministry of Economy, Vladimir Simonjak, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of economy.
