President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received today the Letters of Credence of the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Turkiye, Alper Aktas.
Welcoming him, she expressed her conviction that the good Macedonian-Turkish relations would become even better during his tenure.
For her, Turkiye is not only a strategic partner and a significant NATO ally but also a sincere friend that understands the Macedonian priorities.
She views the establishment of the High-Level Cooperation Council as a political step forward.
For Ambassador Aktas, the strategic partnership is of great importance to both countries.
Siljanovska-Davkova sees opportunities for cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, defense, infrastructure, energy, tourism, culture and education.
She welcomed the Balkan Peace Platform, initiated by the Republic of Turkiye, as a framework for building regional stability through dialogue.
They both consider that the Turkish community represents an important segment of the Macedonian ethnic and religious mosaic, just as citizens of Macedonian origin in Turkiye serve as a solid bridge between the two states.
They shared personal stories that connect them: Ambassador Aktas pointed to his Macedonian family roots, while the President recalled that she was born in a Turkish house in Ohrid.
At the end, she wished him success in carrying out his important ambassadorial office.
