Biography

Dr. Aleksandar Spasov is Associate Professor of theoretical legal sciences at the “Iustinianus Primus” Faculty of Law at the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje, where he has been teaching since 2008. He was born in Skopje; he completed his primary education in Skopje and Krakow, Poland, and his secondary education in Skopje. He graduated in legal studies at the “Iustinianus Primus” Faculty of Law at the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje in 2005. He holds a Master’s degree in legal science in the field of theory of law in 2010, and a PhD in legal science in 2015 at the same faculty.

From 2007 till 2019 he worked as Program Manager and Coordinator of political education at the Progress Institute for Social Democracy. He worked as External Public Policy Advisor in the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia (2017-2019) and as Expert on Higher Education Quality at the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of North Macedonia (2017-2019).

Dr. Aleksandar Lj. Spasov, PhD, was a scholar and intern at the German Bundestag in 2006. He has paid several research visits, including a visit to the Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law “Max Planck” in Heidelberg in 2013, where, as part of his doctoral studies, he researched the area of ​​state sovereignty concepts in the modern international order. From 2012 to 2018 he was co-editor of the scientific and professional journal “European Law”. He is author of several monographs, scientific and expert papers in the field of theory of state and law, international law, international relations and the EU law.

He is fluent in English, German and the South-Slavic languages (Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian and Montenegrin) and understands Polish language.

He is married to Magdalena, who is also a graduated lawyer, and is the father of Lidija.
