President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received today the participants of the regional Conference of Austrian Ambassadors from Southeast Europe, hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Austria in the country and Ambassador Martin Pamer.

The Austrian delegation was led by Ambassador Elisabeth Kornfeind, Director General for European and Economic Affairs at the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria.

Siljanovska-Davkova said that the delegation is evidence of synchronized and active diplomacy, which is important for the European perspective of the region.

She said that Austria is not only one of the largest economic investors in the country, but also our strong political friend and a vocal supporter of EU enlargement and the Macedonian European integration process.

The President reaffirmed the position that integration must be based exclusively on Copenhagen criteria and merits, and that bilateral issues should not be an instrument for blocking this process.

All Austrian ambassadors openly supported the Macedonian path to the EU, emphasizing that the European perspective of the Western Balkan countries and finding solutions to accelerate integration are the focus of their regional conference. They share the President’s view that regional cooperation and access are key to European integration.

At the same time, they agreed that in the current geopolitical context, EU enlargement is a security imperative. They called for respect for the rule of law, international agreements and meritocracy.

The interlocutors expressed their readiness to further deepen Macedonian-Austrian relations and for a common European future.
