President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received Miriam Lexman, a member of the European Parliament from Slovakia, from the European People’s Party group.
The meeting discussed the country’s European integration, with the President emphasizing that membership in the European Union remains our strategic priority, despite the blockade of the process.
Siljanovska-Davkova emphasized that the accession process should be based on merit, on the basis of fulfilling the Copenhagen criteria, respecting the fundamental European documents, without bilateral conditionality.
For her, the blockade represents a serious problem and a dangerous precedent that could be (mis)used in other cases, endangering not only enlargement, but also security.
Recalling that our country is 100% aligned with the common foreign and security policy of the European Union, the President said that in times of complex geopolitical challenges, the best way to strengthen resilience towards third parties is the integration of the countries of the Western Balkans region into the Union.
For the guest, the EU is a natural political home for the countries of the Western Balkans, given their geographical, historical and cultural affiliation.
The interlocutors agreed and confirmed the importance of further cooperation and engagement of EU members, including Slovakia, in order to overcome the obstruction of the Macedonian accession to the EU.
