President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova received today the Ambassador of Finland, Niklas Lindqvist.

At the meeting, it was emphasized that the two countries have built strong partnership relations in the past 30 years and maintain an active political dialogue, promoting common goals and strategic interests for lasting peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond.

President Siljanovska Davkova expressed gratitude for Finland’s consistent and principled support of Macedonian European integration and assistance in meeting European criteria, as well as for successful cooperation through twinning projects.

At the meeting with Ambassador Lindqvist, the President reaffirmed the position that the state institutions remain fully committed to the necessary reform for membership in the European Union, in accordance with the Copenhagen criteria, and emphasized the need for debilateralization of the process in order to prevent future possible abuses of bilateral disputes. on the path of candidate countries to the EU.

In terms of international cooperation, the President emphasized that Finland’s membership in NATO is a significant step towards strengthening transatlantic stability and security for all allies, and also congratulated Finland on the upcoming OSCE chairmanship, expressing readiness to share the Macedonian experience as part of the OSCE – Troika. In that direction, the willingness to continue the cooperation within the UN was reaffirmed and the expectation was expressed for the support of the Macedonian candidacies in international organizations.

The interlocutors exchanged opinions on the possibilities for encouraging economic cooperation, as well as cooperation in the field of education, innovation and digitalization.
