President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received today the members of the men’s and women’s cadet handball national teams, who achieved historic success at the 27th World Handball Championship for High School Students, held in Skopje: the men’s cadet team won the gold medal and was crowned World School Champion, while the women’s cadet team won the silver medal and became world vice-champion.
Congratulating them on their outstanding success, the President thanked them for the knightly battle, the personal and team victory, as well as the worthy representation of the country on the world handball stage.
She believes that the medals won are a result of hard work, thorough dedication and exceptional talent, as well as a reward for the demonstrated ability to compete on equal terms with the best school teams in the world, which makes them the best Macedonian sports ambassadors.
Siljanovska-Davkova said that handball has a special place in Macedonian sports history, in which they are also embedded.
The President also recalled that Macedonian handball has produced generations of top athletes, who inspire a series of generations.
Referring to the importance of sport in the development of the physical and mental health of young people, she said that handball is more than a game, it is a philosophy of life in which discipline and passion, mind, skill and courage, personal effort and collective spirit come together.
According to her, through sport, young people learn how to direct their individual contribution towards the ultimate common goal, through trust, solidarity and awareness of the common good.
Young handball players recognize in their extraordinary achievement confirmation and recognition of their work, but also strong motivation to strive to conquer new handball sports peaks.
Wishing them a successful future, Siljanovska-Davkova wished them to maintain and cultivate the champion spirit.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the School Sports Federation of Macedonia, led by President Elena Mickovska, who presented President Siljanovska-Davkova with a Certificate of Appreciation for her special contribution to the development and affirmation of school sports.
