President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, within the framework of her participation in the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, addressed the Security Council at a high-level open debate on the topic “Leadership for peace: united in relation to the United Nations Charter, in search of secure future”.

In her address, President Siljanovska Davkova, pointing out that we are still facing many conflicts, but with an even greater inability to solve them and address them in a timely manner, emphasized that now, more than ever, we need leadership for peace.

“In these times of war and sharp polarization, the common pursuit of peace depends on our collective engagement and leadership. The more we delay a solution, the wider the consequences become and affect us more, with the threat of becoming not only regional, but also global. The threat of using nuclear weapons is an unimaginable, but still very real”, President Siljanovska Davkova said.

“The only weapon we have to use is the collective effort to protect the international order for future generations. All our efforts should be aimed at creating conditions for sustainable peace and development, where our values and principles should be fully respected”, President Davkova said.

She said that with our joint contribution to global peace and security, we should enable the United Nations to perform its leading role, and, in that direction, she emphasized that North Macedonia remains committed to the UN Charter in its entirety and to a reformed UN Security Council, able to fulfill its mandate better.
