President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova met with professors from Humboldt University in California, led by Professor Nick Angelov, a Macedonian by origin, and Professor Ljuben Tevdovski, from the University of “Goce Delchev”, head of the Macedonian-American team conducting archaeological research on Macedonian soil. The meeting was also attended by the Dean of the University of “Goce Delchev” from Stip, Prof. Dr. Emilija Petrova-Gjorgieva and Prof. Dr. Verica Josimovska, head of the Department of History and Archaeology.
The professors informed the President about the intensive cooperation between the two universities in the field of archaeology and introduced her to the valuable excavations in the areas of Bitola, Demir Kapija and Ohrid.
By presenting archaeological findings in foreign professional journals and in the media, they promote the Macedonian cultural heritage, provoke great scientific, but also broader interest therein.
The President welcomed and encouraged the Macedonian-American scientific archaeological activity, qualifying our archaeological heritage as a national and civilizational cultural value.
She emphasized the belief that with international assistance we will restore and make available to the eyes of the domestic and world public the numerous archaeological artifacts discovered on the Macedonian soil.
The President expressed support for the project of the two universities, welcoming the exchange of students, on the one hand, but also the importance of the archaeological findings for the development of cultural tourism, on the other.
Delighted by the Macedonian cultural heritage, the American professors stated that they were surprised by the archaeological diversity, on the one hand, but also by the age and layering of history, on the other, which is a great scientific and human challenge for all of them!
