President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, during her official visit to Montenegro, met today in Podgorica with the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajic.
At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the overall bilateral relations between the two countries, the European aspirations and the situation in the region.
President Siljanovska Davkova expressed satisfaction with the current development of relations and cooperation, which are characterized by traditionally strong friendship, identical positions regarding the development of international and regional cooperation, with shared strategic goals – peace and stability in the region and membership in the EU.
President Siljanovska Davkova stressed the expectation that the progress in Macedonian European integration will be evaluated fairly, based on the Copenhagen criteria, and expressed her expectation for sharing the expertise and experiences of the Montenegrin administration in the negotiations with the Union.
She said that regional cooperation is among her main priorities, pointing out that by respecting and encouraging unity in the region, we can accelerate the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU. In this regard, the interlocutors proposed specific solutions: re-establishing a direct airline, establishing cultural centers in both countries, as well as holding an intergovernmental session as soon as possible. The Prime Minister emphasized the readiness to share Montenegro’s previous European integration experiences with Macedonian institutions.
The interlocutors concluded that a rapid and major step forward in economic cooperation is needed, which will follow the excellent political relations.
