President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova attended today in Shtip and addressed this year’s “Textile Festival – 8”, organized by the Association for Protection of Worker’s Rights “Glasen Tekstilec”.
In her address, President Siljanovska Davkova expressed her satisfaction of being a part of the eighth textile festival and emphasized that in the past seven editions, the textile festival has creatively shown that it is possible to be active, and that citizen participation can be stimulated.
“Putting emphasis on textile workers and their involvement in the decision-making process, the Association for Protection of Worker’s Rights “Glasen Tekstilec”, I think that not only through this event, but also through many projects and programs, has grown into the voice of textile workers. I think it is a voice for a dignified life, a voice for dignified working conditions, a voice for respect for all the rights I referred to, a voice for justice and fairness”, President Siljanovska Davkova said.
The President pointed to the examples of inhumanity faced by textile workers, as well as the lack of hearing for the voice that pointed to unprecedented injustice and said that all the weaknesses that we as a state and institutions show in suppressing negative phenomena, especially related to this category of labor, must be eradicated, and she cited the civil sector, that is, associations, as a key factor.
“I recommend you to continue to be unwaveringly rebellious, subversive – my favorite word. “Subversion was the reason why I entered politics, to achieve your goals, to help solve burning issues, to initiate dialogue, to build partnerships”, the President said.
President Siljanovska Davkova, emphasizing the international character of the textile industry as an important step, said that the strength of a state, or the strength of a society, is not only in the economy, in the standard of living and in technological development, but above all in the social capital.
“There is nothing more valuable than a person, human resources, the values we share and we live with. That is why I wish to build Macedonia as an open, social state, regardless of party ideology and commitment”, President Siljanovska Davkova said in her address at this year’s “Textile Festival – 8”.
Earlier, in the center of Shtip, within the framework of the event, President Siljanovska Davkova attended the unveiling of a work of art – the “Different Directions, Same Goal” statue of Nikola Smilkov.
The topic of this year’s “Textile Festival – 8” is “Different Directions, Same Goal”, and is aimed at highlighting the different approaches taken by associations, unions, institutions and authorities at local and national level to improve working conditions and workers’ rights, as well as socially responsible fashion brands, companies, employers and organizations that strive to improve work processes and workers’ productivity.
