President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received the Letters of Credence of the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of India resident in Sofia, Arun Kumar Sahu.
At the ceremony, the Ambassador said that his goal is to take bilateral relations to a higher level, with a special focus on enhanced political engagement, stronger trade and investment ties, and development of cultural cooperation.
Siljanovska-Davkova said that an important dimension is economic cooperation, as India offers enormous opportunities for partnership in information technology, renewable energy sources, the pharmaceutical industry, and in infrastructure development. She added that we can offer a strategic location in the Balkans, a qualified workforce, and a favorable business climate for Indian investors and companies. According to her, cooperation in the field of education and culture deserves special attention, adding that both countries are connected by rich cultural traditions and the common commitment to peace, democracy and the rule of law.
Both agreed that the two countries are united by a special bond – the saint Mother Teresa, born in Skopje, who dedicated her life to selflessly helping the most vulnerable in India. This unusual and exceptional woman becomes a spiritual bridge connecting the two peoples, a symbol of humanity and kindness, values that are respected and cherished in the Macedonian and the Indian society.
Wishing him a successful ambassadorial term, she expressed her expectation for the realization of the agreed official visit of the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, to which the ambassador said that this issue is high on his agenda.
