President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received the Letters of Credence of the newly appointed Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Irena Gotzova, today. The meeting reaffirmed the friendship between the two countries, which have continuously advanced their bilateral relations and strengthened their partnership within international institutions and organizations since 1994.
The President sees potential and opportunities for intensifying economic relations, a view shared by the Ambassador, who highlighted security, business and education as areas offering scope for broader, deeper cooperation and increased interaction between Czech and Macedonian citizens.
Siljanovska-Davkova expressed her conviction that Ambassador Gotzova’s extensive diplomatic experience and excellent knowledge of the region signal the opening of a new chapter in the Macedonian-Czech relations.
She also expressed gratitude for the Czech Republic’s sincere and principled support on our long and arduous path toward Brussels.
Mindful of current geopolitical challenges, Siljanovska-Davkova stressed the importance of integrating the Western Balkans into the EU, not only for geographical, historical and cultural reasons, but also as a reliable guarantee of European security, stability and resilience against unwanted and unpredictable influences.
The President also pointed out the legal, political and ethical untenability of tolerating disregard for European principles and values, enshrined in the EU’s founding documents, by member states that are our neighbors, even though their support ought to be the strongest.
In her view, an end must be put to the un-European blocking of our negotiations – specifically, the abuse of the veto to bilateralize the negotiation process, a move driven by an intent to revise history through the imposition of irrational conditions that challenge the identity of the Macedonian people or any other Balkan nation.
Through the newly appointed Ambassador, Siljanovska-Davkova extended an invitation to the Czech President to visit the country.
Finally, she wished Ambassador Gotzova good health and success in the noble and responsible role she holds.
