President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova today received the management team of the State Audit Office, led by the Chief State Auditor, Maksim Acevski.
At the meeting, the President was informed in detail about the current work and the key alarming findings in the Annual Report on the performed audits.
The representatives pointed out the riskiest situations and the necessity of overcoming them quickly and efficiently. The Chief State Auditor also presented the current, as well as planned activities, in accordance with the Annual Work Program.
President Siljanovska-Davkova expressed her impression of the thorough, expert and professional attitude of the State Audit Office in the performance of its responsibilities, which makes it one of the most respected state bodies at home, but also abroad. She expressed particular support for the systemic and transparent approach to work, pointing out the need for legal and efficient management of public goods and funds, as well as sanctioning illegal actions.
She pointed out that compliance with the findings and recommendations of the SAO is essential for promoting accountability and transparency in the public sector.
The professionalism and independence of auditors were highlighted as the main reasons for the high reputation, rating and trust in the State Audit Office.
The issue of the new Law on State Audit was raised, as well as the need to guarantee the constitutional status of the institution, as a guarantee of independence.
