President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova held a farewell meeting today with the United Kingdom’s Ambassador, Matthew Lawson, thanking him for his personal commitment and proactive approach to strengthening Macedonian-British relations.
For Siljanovska-Davkova, the United Kingdom has been a long-standing and proven friend during key moments in the country’s recent history – from its admission to the UN and NATO membership to the European integration process.
They assessed the elevation of relations to the level of a strategic partnership as a new chapter in bilateral ties, opening the way for broader future cooperation.
Siljanovska-Davkova views the intergovernmental partnership agreement on infrastructure projects, which earmarks EUR 6 billion for strategic investments, as one of the most significant opportunities the country has received from an international partner.
During the meeting, the interlocutors reaffirmed the importance of mutual cooperation in defense and within the framework of NATO.
Both parties see the newly established British Business Association in Skopje as an opportunity to deepen economic relations. According to them, visa facilitation between the countries would strengthen ties between citizens and contribute to increased trade and academic exchange, as well as development of tourism.
At the farewell meeting, Lawson thanked the President for the excellent cooperation and expressed confidence that it would continue with his successor. In the period ahead, he expects the partnership to deepen through new British investments and projects related to digitalization, youth policies, and women’s leadership.
Siljanovska-Davkova wished Ambassador Lawson good health, happiness and continued professional success.
