President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova met today with the President of the Cynological Club “Macedonian Sheepdog – Karaman”, Ilija Karov, on the occasion of the conditional registration of the Karaman breed in the registers of the World Cynological Federation, thus becoming part of the family of over 380 recognized dog breeds in the world.
The President of the Cynological Club said that Karaman is not just a new name in the international registers, but a symbol of perseverance, love and vision that have been invested in the affirmation of the breed for more than two and a half decades.
For both of them, this recognition is a significant success for Macedonian cynology and for the national cultural heritage.
The President expressed her gratitude to Mr. Karov and to all breeders and supporters who have worked dedicatedly to the preservation and recognition of this indigenous Macedonian shepherd dog.
She said that Karaman becomes the first recognized Macedonian shepherd dog with an independent national origin, which further confirms the country as a country with a rich and authentic canine heritage.
According to the interlocutors, Karaman reflects the specifics of rural life in the Macedonian mountains, as a strong and dignified guardian of the herds, but also a calm, intelligent and loyal companion of the family.
Siljanovska-Davkova also shared personal experience, emphasizing that she knows the nature of this breed closely. “The Karaman in my home confirms every day that it is a dog with a pronounced protective instinct towards home and family”, she said.
International recognition is an incentive for further care and support towards permanent international recognition of the breed.
