President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received today Japanese Ambassador Setsuko Kawahara, who presented her with a congratulatory message from His Majesty Naruhito, Emperor of Japan, on the occasion of September 8 – Independence Day.
Siljanovska-Davkova thanked for the warm wishes, describing them as an expression of lasting friendship and mutual respect between the two countries.
The Ambassador informed about the successful participation of the country at Osaka EXPO 2025 and expressed her delight at the cultural and artistic program we presented our country to the Japanese public on Independence Day. The interlocutors agreed that the famous opera artists Ana and Igor Durlovski with the chamber orchestra “Aiga”, jazz guitarist Vladimir Vasilevski – Chetkar, as well as Kiril Dzajkovski and his band, authentically presented Macedonian culture, tradition and modern art.
According to both, the excellent attendance of the Macedonian pavilion at EXPO 2025 is proof of the potential we have as a tourist destination with a rich cultural, historical and natural heritage.
Reaffirming the importance of cultural diplomacy, Siljanovska-Davkovka expressed satisfaction with the attention attracted by the exhibition dedicated to the Japanese architect Kenzo Tange and his plan for reconstruction of Skopje after the 1963 earthquake. She also welcomed the interest and visit to the Macedonian pavilion by students from the Takanawa High School in Tokyo who are studying the Macedonian language.
The President thanked for the overall support and donations from Japan and expressed readiness to further build friendly ties and continue cooperation within international organizations.
Referring to current developments at the global level, the interlocutors agreed that urgent and deep reform of the UN is needed, in order to strengthen multilateralism to address real global challenges.
