President Siljanovska-Davkova meets with Czech Foreign Minister Macinka

President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received today in Villa Biljana in Ohrid the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Petr Macinka, who is on an official visit to the country.

In pleasant talks, they concluded that the Macedonian-Czech relations are characterized by traditional friendship, based on mutual respect and understanding. In the work of the enlighteners “Ss. Cyril and Methodius”, they recognize a valuable common heritage with enormous unifying power.

Main topic of the talks was the long Macedonian and Western Balkan path to Brussels. Siljanovska-Davkova pointed out that the two-decade candidate status for EU membership does not stem from the non-compliance with European law and practice, but from the blockades of some neighbors of an irrational identity nature.

She warned that the European integration of the Western Balkans is not only a political and technical issue, but also a European security issue.

Minister Macinka assessed that the country’s place is in the European Union. According to him, the Czech Republic needs allies with a similar past, mentality and culture.

The President thanked the Czech Republic for its principled and continuous support expressed through the Friends of Enlargement initiative, as well as through the Czech Republic’s engagement within the Visegrad Group and the Slavkov format.

Both believe that the fruitful cooperation in the economy, tourism, science and education will continue, expand and strengthen.
