President Siljanovska-Davkova receives the winning teams of the “NASA Space Apps Challenge 2024”

President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received the Macedonian teams achieving exceptional results at the “NASA Space Apps Challenge 2024”, organized by the American Space Research Agency NASA.

At the meeting, the President was introduced to the goals of the 48-hour hackathon, which was simultaneously held in 180 countries, while in our country students from all over the country competed at two locations, NASA Space Apps Strumica, at the “Dimitar Vlahov” Municipal Vocational High School, and NASA Space Apps Skopje at the premises of the “Base 42” Community of Technology Enthusiasts.

The three winning teams from Strumica and the winning team from Skopje, selected by the expert committees of the competition, presented their innovative solutions, using open data provided by NASA and its partners.

President Siljanovska-Davkova, congratulating them on the significant achievements, expressed her satisfaction with the creativity and competence of the Macedonian teams. She emphasized the need for further commitment to the advancement of education and science in our country, for which there is obviously great interest and high potential among the younger generations.

In this regard, the President expressed her readiness to contribute to the development and promotion of this sector in our country, through support in implementing thematic events and establishing contacts with countries that have advanced space programs.

At the hackathon in Strumica, the first place was won by the “Space Banana” team, whose project focuses on education about exoplanets through a game, which unfolds as a story with a visual display.

The second place went to the “AHSS Planet Explorers” team, whose focus is on research of existing exoplanets, their atmosphere, terrain and climate, and the third place went to the “Space Jam” team, dedicated to the visualization of space bodies that are positioned around the Earth.

In Skopje, the first place was won by the “Alkor” team, whose intuitive and interactive website contains resources, data and materials for researching geomagnetic storms and their impact on the Earth.
