Siljanovska-Davkova delivers a lecture at the Faculty of Law in Zagreb

25 March 2026 | Press Releases

President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova concluded her official visit to the Republic of Croatia with a lecture at the Faculty of Law in Zagreb, dedicated to the paradoxes of the Macedonian integration into the European Union.

In her address, she assessed our path to the European Union as too long, complex, burdened with double standards and political conditioning, often contrary to the constitutive acts of the EU and the rule of law.

The President pointed out the incompatibility of the current war on European soil with the idea of the European Union as a peace project.

For the President, it is paradoxical that the country, despite significant reforms, but also difficult concessions, including the name change, is facing new demands of identity and historical nature, outside the Copenhagen criteria.

According to her, it is legally untenable to foresee constitutional amendments with a Minutes of the Meeting, i.e. Protocol.

For Siljanovska-Davkova, the enlargement of the Union in the current geopolitical moment is an important security issue.

The lecture was attended by professors and students of the Faculty of Law, whose questions the President answered with pleasure.
