President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova met with the Director of the International Seminar for Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture at the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje, Kristina Nikolovska.
Nikolovska first informed the President about the recently held 5th Winter School of the International Seminar for Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture, assessing it as exceptionally successful, as well as about the preparations for the upcoming Summer School, which is traditionally held in Ohrid.
The President welcomed the formation of a Coordination Body for the preparation of the program for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the codification of the Macedonian literary language and recalled that this year marks 100 years since the publication of the Greek-Macedonian Textbook, the primer for Macedonian children in Athens, Greece.
The meeting also discussed the Macedonian language teaching departments. Professor Nikolovska presented a list of existing teaching departments, those with a long tradition, as well as newly opened or renewed ones, the number of students, the implemented activities and projects, the problems and dilemmas, and the possible solution to resolve them.
For both, although the Law on the Use of the Macedonian Language is a solid legal framework for development of teaching departments, a strategic approach is needed in the promotion of the Macedonian language and Macedonian studies, including appropriate financial support for those engaged, which will raise interest in including not only teaching departments but also professors in the teaching and educational process.
The President expressed open support and readiness for further cooperation in the spread of the Macedonian language, literature and culture.
