President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, within the framework of the participation of the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, had a meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alan Berse.
At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the goals and priorities aimed at democratization of the Macedonian society, human rights and the rule of law. Reaffirming the commitment to further constructive cooperation with the Council of Europe, President Siljanovska Davkova expressed satisfaction with the continued support for our full compliance with the European standards and values.
President Siljanovska Davkova emphasized the importance of credible action by the European Union in relation to the integration of the countries of the Western Balkans where the progress of the individual candidates is clearly deserved. She also referred to the need to ensure compliance with the obligations that Member States have undertaken, including the proper implementation of the judgments of the Strasbourg Court.
The interlocutors also discussed the current security situation in Europe, with an emphasis on the war in Ukraine, as well as the need for commitment and a common approach to current and future challenges such as the impact of new technologies and climate change on human resources.
At the meeting, President Siljanovska Davkova sent congratulations to the newly elected Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alan Berse, expressing sincere wishes for the successful fulfillment of the important mission and continuation of the fruitful cooperation with the Macedonian institutions.
