The meeting between President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, Urska Klakocar Zupancic, who is paying an official visit to the country, highlighted the commitments to foster regional unity, maintain good economic cooperation and strong support for the Macedonian European integration.
Slovenia was, is, and will remain our supporter and friend on the path to the EU, because that is where we belong, President Siljanovska-Davkova said.
The President expressed sincere and deep gratitude for the sympathy, assistance and support that Slovenia provided after the tragic event in Kocani, which testifies to the strong friendship.
She thanked for the continuous support in the process of our European integration marathon and emphasized that Slovenia has always been by our side.
Emphasizing the position on the necessity of respecting the Copenhagen criteria, she expressed skepticism that the EU’s constitutional documents are being respected.
Both expressed satisfaction with the bilateral cooperation and partnership on a multilateral level, which, among other things, are based on the NATO alliance, the common commitment to peace and stability in the region, as well as the fact that there is not a single open issue between the two countries.
The President of the Slovenian National Assembly reaffirmed her support, emphasizing that the EU is incomplete and unfinished without all European peoples. She expressed understanding for the frustration of Macedonian citizens due to the protracted nature of the European integration process and for the fears of imposing new obstacles despite the many concessions made by the Macedonian side.
The interlocutors agreed that the EU’s enlargement policy must not be bilateralized and have special criteria and precedents for us, as this will also be reflected in the next candidates.
