The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, received today, on the occasion of October 15 – International White Cane Day, students from the State School for Visually Impaired Children and Youth “Dimitar Vlahov” from Skopje.

During the visit to the President’s Cabinet, to Villa Vodno, the students had the opportunity to meet and talk with President Pendarovski in person, to convey their interests for personal development in the educational process, as well as their future career aspirations, and shared the challenges and obstacles they face in their daily lives.

The guests informed the President that their school is a successful model and example of inclusion, as all students learn, socialize and have fun together. They praised for being great chess players, and before President Pendarovski proved to be talented musicians. They saw the famous mosaics in the Cabinet in their own way, by touching them, as they say, with their soul and heart.

President Pendarovski said that all young people in our country have his unreserved support in the realization of their rights, constructive goals, commitments and initiatives, which directly affect the overall quality of life of the citizens of the country.

Competent institutions and civil society organizations, the President said, should systematically work to raise social awareness to completely abolish all forms of discrimination against the blind. Promoting their rights, the President stressed, should be our common priority, and engagement should not be reduced to activities that are organized once a year, when such days are celebrated, but daily, at all levels and in all spheres of social life.

The guests also met with some of the Cabinet staff and were informed of the functioning of this institution. This is the first visit of children from the Dimitar Vlahov School, established in 1954, and is the only one of its kind to provide the best social inclusion and education for children with visual impairments.
