President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, within the framework of her participation in the Climate Change Summit (COP29) in Baku, had a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium, Alexander De Croo.
At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the overall bilateral relations between the two countries, while the Macedonian aspirations for membership in the European Union were the focus of the talks.
The Belgian Prime Minister De Croo pointed out that our country can count on strong Belgian support, because according to official Brussels, the country has made enormous progress and now it is the time for the European Union to do something.
President Siljanovska Davkova, highlighting the good and friendly relations between the two countries, expressed the need to intensify communication at the highest level. In the context of the accession process to the European Union, President Siljanovska Davkova pointed to the need to open membership negotiations, with the aim of mobilizing institutions and focusing on reforms and standards, especially on the rule of law and the fight against corruption.
President Siljanovska Davkova emphasized the expectation from the Macedonian side for a fair process of accession to the EU that will respect the national pride of our citizens and will be conducted in a way that does not deeply disturb their sense of national identity.
