President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received the Letters of Credence from H.E. Ms. Maya Sivagnanam, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Siljanovska-Davkova noted that the Macedonian-British friendship has deep historical roots, pointing to the advocacy by prominent British politicians for the freedom and rights of the Macedonian people as early as the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

According to her, this is confirmed today through a strategic partnership – an ambitious framework that facilitates new investments in transport, energy and healthcare.

Addressing the issue of security, the President pointed out that, as NATO allies, we share a common responsibility for preserving peace and stability in Europe. She expressed gratitude for the long-standing British support regarding defense reforms and military education, noting that these are particularly important amidst growing geopolitical uncertainties.

The Ambassador expressed a readiness to deepen cooperation with the Macedonian institutions, emphasizing the importance of the rule of law and democracy. For her, investing in young people through their education and the creation of opportunities for their development, as well as promoting equality and inclusion, and strengthening the role of women and girls, are key to building safer, more prosperous and more resilient societies.

Both parties recognize significant scope for cooperation in the fields of culture, science and education, particularly through British Council programs and Chevening scholarships.

Siljanovska-Davkova wished the Ambassador good health, happiness and success in the performance of her diplomatic duties.
