President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, in her capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, accompanied by the Macedonian Ambassador to NATO Murtezani and the Chief of the General Staff, Major General Lafchiski, met with General Alexus Gregory Grynkewich, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE).

Siljanovska-Davkova reaffirmed the country’s commitment to collective defense and its contribution to the security of the Allies, emphasizing that the stability of the Western Balkans is inseparable from the security of the broader Euro-Atlantic community. According to the President, full Euro-Atlantic integration and the EU membership of the Western Balkan countries constitute an important component of the European security architecture.

She pointed out that unresolved disputes, political tensions, and institutional vulnerabilities render the region susceptible to hybrid threats, disinformation and malicious external influences; consequently, greater resilience, crisis preparedness and protection of critical infrastructure are essential.

In her view, the continued presence of KFOR and other NATO missions is of vital importance for peace and stability in Kosovo and the wider region.

The President noted that the country is committed to developing its defense capabilities in line with NATO targets, with the strategic defense documents and the long-term development of the Army’s capabilities currently being updated.

According to her, modernization entails not only procurement of modern equipment but also careful planning, long-term investment and close cooperation with allies, all aligned with the Army’s needs and the Alliance’s requirements.

She specifically highlighted Corridors 8 and 10, emphasizing that their geographic location and infrastructure connectivity are significant for fulfilling the Alliance’s mission.

She indicated that the country advocates for respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter, while expressing a readiness to continue cooperating with allies through joint assistance mechanisms.

In conclusion, the President reaffirmed the Macedonian commitment to being a reliable and constructive ally, contributing to collective defense, regional peace and security of the Euro-Atlantic community.
