President Stevo Pendarovski, at the “Ilinden” barracks in Skopje, attended today the event in honor of the members of the special forces of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia who participated in the humanitarian rescue operation after the catastrophic earthquake in the Republic of Turkiye.
It is an army protection and rescue team from the Special Forces Battalion, handlers and trained search dogs that were deployed in Kahramanmaras.
At the event, the Army members shared some of their experiences in performing tasks. The team was engaged in searching the field, finding and rescuing survivors. The Macedonian army team showed its readiness and self-sacrifice in providing help with the successful action of rescuing a 5-year-old child from under the ruins.
President Pendarovski congratulated the army members for their sacrifice and demonstrated professionalism and superhuman efforts, noting that the engagement on the spot was in the rank of the most professional achievements that can be expected.
“The Macedonian people, all Macedonian citizens have helped Turkiye and will continue to help in the future in any situation, not because we are a member of NATO and are formal allies, but because of our friendship, the friendship between our peoples goes back centuries and will continues for centuries to come, so I want to assure all Turkish citizens through their Ambassador here and through the public that we have helped and will help”, President Pendarovski said.
