President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received today the Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye, Fuat Oktay.
She once again expressed her condolences for the fire that occurred in the Kartalkaya ski resort. The interlocutors stressed the importance of mutual understanding and assistance in difficult times.
The meeting confirmed the strong Macedonian-Turkish friendship. It was stated that the Turkish community in the country is an inseparable part of Macedonian society and that the citizens of Macedonian origin in Turkiye are a bridge for rapprochement between the two countries. The President once again stressed her close relations with Turkiye related to her personal, professional and parliamentary experience.
The interlocutors stressed the importance of the strategic partnership for overall mutual relations, and especially for defense and security. They agreed that the role of the Turkish community is particularly important in the Macedonian multicultural society.
They also expressed their expectation for greater investment and increased trade.
The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye, Fuat Oktay, pointed out the need to improve living conditions in areas with a majority Turkish population, with a special emphasis on infrastructure. He also conveyed the wish of his compatriots for more frequent meetings with the President.
The President supported the Turkish proposal to establish a High Council for Strategic Cooperation between the two countries as a guarantee for the deepening of the strategic partnership. Both see in the Council a legal and institutional framework for intensifying overall mutual cooperation.
Mr. Fuat Oktay pointed out the great interest of numerous Turkish citizens of Macedonian origin in obtaining Macedonian citizenship speedily. They also see an open space for greater cooperation in the field of tourism.
