Siljanovska-Davkova meets with foster parents and children from SOS Children’s Village

6 June 2026 | Press Releases

On the occasion of June 1 – International Children’s Day and Foster Families Day, President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received children and representatives of foster families from SOS Children’s Village, as well as members of the organization’s management.

Paying tribute to their noble work and humanity, the President described the foster parents as great mothers and fathers, as great parents. “With you, home is not just a house”, she emphasized and added that it is necessary to appropriately value their work that they invest in caring for and raising children. According to her, foster families need a nurturing attitude from the state towards them.

Accompanied by, as they say, “their children”, the foster parents and representatives of SOS Children’s Village discussed with the President possible solutions towards building a functional system of foster families, pointing out possible solutions such as: treating foster care as a job with a beneficial length of service, whereby foster parents would have health and pension insurance, as well as the right to sick leave, a right they are currently deprived of.

“Every child has the right to education, security and a carefree childhood”, concluded Siljanovska-Davkova, emphasizing that we must find appropriate solutions for valorizing the labor, dedication and love given by foster parents, but also solutions that will encourage new foster families.

As part of the visit, the children visited the premises in the Cabinet and were also introduced to the President’s responsibilities.
