President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova met today with representatives of the Association for Human Reproduction and Assisted Reproductive Technology (in vitro) “To a Baby via In Vitro”: President Despina Petrovska and members Natasa Gjorgjieva Bozinov and Marija Mihajloska Jankulovska.
The President first commended the courage of all women and men who decide to become parents through in vitro fertilization, emphasizing that they are strong individuals.
She welcomed the efforts of the Association – the first and only one of its kind – which advocates not only for the advancement of the rights of patients undergoing the in vitro process but also for dignified motherhood and parenthood.
The Association’s representatives briefed the President on their activities, noting that, according to World Health Organization data, one in six people faces infertility, with the prevalence being equal among men and women.
They highlighted the immense value of the amendments to the Law on Health Care, which increased the number of free in vitro vouchers from 3 to 6 attempts and enabled the dispensing of Clexane via medical prescription.
Several requests and objectives were presented at the meeting: increasing funding for higher-quality in vitro therapy, enabling genetic testing and analysis to be conducted at MANU and performing prenatal testing domestically rather than abroad.
Given the country’s birth rate problem, they highlight the need for systemic support for this specific subgroup of citizens – support which, as the President added, has a macro-level impact on society.
