Tonight in Ohrid, President Stevo Pendarovski met with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, who is visiting North Macedonia as part of his regional tour in the Western Balkans.
Ahead of the June EU Summit, which is preceded by the European Union-Western Balkans Leadership Meeting, the Presidents discussed the European file of North Macedonia, the challenges and possible modalities for overcoming them. They also referred to Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine, the possible security threats in the region and beyond, as well as the economic challenges arising from the effects of the health and energy crisis.
At the same time, the two Presidents exchanged views on the latest ideas for the creation of a “European Geopolitical Community”, with President Pendarovski emphasizing that every idea that would provide deeper operational cooperation to address common challenges and interests, such as stability and security on the European continent, which will not replace the Union’s enlargement policy with the Western Balkans, is welcome.
