President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova sent a congratulation message to the citizens on the occasion of 11 October – the Day of the People’s Uprising.
Respected citizens,
On this day, with pride and honor, we pay well-deserved respect to the Macedonian partisans who rose up in 1941 and launched the national liberation struggle.
11 October is the milestone that determined our present and future, the day when we bravely and decisively joined the anti-fascist coalition of freedom-loving and justice-loving peoples, thus choosing the right side in the biggest war in the history of mankind, firmly determined to defeat the occupiers and to fight for a free national state.
Grateful to the heroes for their superhuman sacrifice, we have a responsibility to them, but also to our children and grandchildren to continue building the Macedonian state according to the ideals they bequeathed to us, because protecting the homeland is as important as the act of liberating it.
Each generation faces new challenges. For the past 33 years, we have fought for recognition of independence and for obtaining a deserved place in the European family and in international organizations, for preserving peace and building democracy.
The fight for our justice, but also for a legal state, continues.
Let me remind you: our ancestors came together and united achieved what they could not achieve separately – a free Macedonian state.
I invite you to overcome mutual divisions and unite in the common struggle for a prosperous European state and for a just Macedonian society.
