The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, sent a congratulation message on the occasion of the celebration of May 24, the Day of the Slavic educators, Ss. Cyril and Methodius.

Dear fellow citizens,

Let me congratulate you on May 24, the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius. A day dedicated to the Slavic apostles, the protectors of Europe, who left us an alphabet, books, but also a biography filled with sharing and patience, with modesty, nobility and inexhaustible faith.

Even more than 11 centuries after their earthly existence, the deeds of Cyril and Methodius are still alive. In the 21st century, mother tongue and its use is a fundamental human right that is universally respected.

From the very beginning, as a state, we decided to look to the future, believing in the democratic values and working for the well-being of all our citizens. Even today, we are ready to stretch a hand and share the place under the sun with all and everyone, through mutual respect, friendship and building a common future based on the democratic principles which we support unreservedly.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We have been celebrating the holidays in these past few months differently than in previous years, facing the challenge and danger of the corona virus. Let us not allow fear and despair to overwhelm us, let us persevere and survive as responsible citizens, sharing solidarity.

May the holidays be our inspiration and additional motivation to stay disciplined, careful and united in order to defeat the pandemic!

I wish you to spend the holiday in peace, tranquility and joy.

Congratulations on May 24, the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius!

Stevo Pendarovski
President of the Republic of North Macedonia
