President Stevo Pendarovski received today Dan Shechtman, the 2011 Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry, who is visiting our country upon invitation of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Union of Chemists and Technologists of Macedonia.
The meeting discussed world trends in natural sciences, global economic flows, as well as the need to direct national policies to support innovation and technological development.
The Nobel Laureate Shechtman expressed his thoughts on the challenges of scientific thought today, and referred to his rich scientific work. Shechtman introduced President Pendarovski to the most important moments of his career and research on quasicrystals, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2011.
Thanking Nobel Laureate Shechtman for his visit, President Pendarovski emphasized that promoting interest in science is of particular importance in our country, for young people to direct their energy and creativity towards building a society in accordance with the principles of sustainability.
