The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Mr. Stevo Pendarovski, received today the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of North Macedonia, Ambassador Samuel Zbogar.
The EU Ambassador Zbogar congratulated President Pendarovski on the election and wished him successful performance of the responsible office. At the same time, he conveyed greetings and handed a letter of congratulations from the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, and the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker.
At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the implementation of the priorities and reforms of the Republic of North Macedonia regarding the European integration.
President Pendarovski underlined that the start of the negotiations for membership of the Republic of North Macedonia in the EU is deserved and necessary as an encouragement of the overall reforms and promotion of the political culture in the country.
“We expect the leaders of the European Union members to be principled and consistent with the promises made, to value the work done and to enable the Republic of North Macedonia to achieve success in the European integration plan”, President Pendarovski said at the meeting with the EU Ambassador Zbogar.
The two interlocutors agreed that the Republic of North Macedonia is the only functional democracy in the region, given the successfully organized and conducted presidential elections, the election of the President, as well as the correctness of the opposition in the context of the election process and the recognition of the results and the will of the citizens.
President Pendarovski and the EU Ambassador Zbogar concluded that the progress in the European integrations is crucial for improving the living standard and maintaining the Euro-optimism of the citizens in the Republic of North Macedonia.
