Meeting with the European Parliament Former Members Association

The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, had a virtual meeting today with a delegation of the Former Members Association of the European Parliament (FMA).

The delegation was made up of 15 former members of the European Parliament from Germany, Italy, France, Great Britain, Spain, Greece and Slovenia and was led by Hans-Gert Pottering, the current chair of the Association and former President of the European Parliament.

At the meeting, opinions and information were exchanged on the European integration process of the Republic of North Macedonia and the progress in the key reform areas, as well as on the current developments in the EU related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

President Pendarovski expressed satisfaction with the continuous and principled support that our country receives from the European Parliament and stressed that given the progress made, North Macedonia deserves and is ready to start accession negotiations for membership in the European Union, and the integration of North Macedonia and the countries from the Western Balkans to the European Union is in the interest of regional security and prosperity.

The former MEPs welcomed President Pendarovski’s efforts to build good neighborly relations with all neighboring countries and his commitment to regional cooperation and implementation of European standards in the country.

The virtual meeting of President Pendarovski with the MEPs is part of the program – Study visit to North Macedonia aimed at promoting constructive dialogue and supporting parliamentary democracy.
