President Stevo Pendarovski received today representatives of the Association of Diabetics of North Macedonia, on the eve of the World Diabetes Day – November 14, which is celebrated in our country under the auspices of the President.
The representatives of the Association of Diabetics informed President Pendarovski about the work done so far and pointed out the challenges they face. They briefed President Pendarovski on the priorities in their program aimed at implementing the National Diabetes Program 2020 – 2030, establishing a functional National Register of Diabetics and completing the process of state-of-the-art diabetes treatment with the purchase of modern digital medical devices.
At the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the situation in our country, pointing out worrying data that show that out of 125,000 patients with diabetes, over 45,000 are receiving insulin therapy. Of these, 500 are children with Type 1 diabetes. According to the Association, the increase in the number of patients is due to the accelerated pace of urbanization, sedentary lifestyle and poor nutrition.
The Association stressed that in the last few years they have good cooperation with the competent institutions, as well as with the clinics that treat diabetes and its complications.
Congratulating the Association on its 20th anniversary, President Pendarovski praised their efforts to improve the quality of life of people with diabetes. President Pendarovski said that in addition to raising awareness, it is necessary in our country to engage all the necessary resources in dealing with diabetes.
