President Pendarovski receives the EU Ambassador David Geer

President Stevo Pendarovski received today the Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of North Macedonia, Ambassador David Geer.

At the meeting, opinions and information were exchanged on the European perspectives of the Republic of North Macedonia, on the possibilities to start accession negotiations for membership in the European Union and on the implementation of the reforms in order to meet the European standards.

“The full integration of the Western Balkan countries into the European Union is an essential guarantee for further democratic development, stability and prosperity of the region. No member state of the Union may jeopardize the European future of our people by making irrational demands”, President Pendarovski said at the meeting, adding that only through dialogue and respect for the principles and fundamental values ​​of the European Union and international law, bilateral differences and challenges can be overcome.

The Republic of North Macedonia remains strongly committed to the policy of good neighborliness and regional cooperation, President Pendarovski said, emphasizing that the start of membership negotiations will be an additional impetus to accelerate reforms.

At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the current measures and situation in the European Union in order to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic, where President Pendarovski expressed gratitude for the EU solidarity and support for the health sector, as well as the financial package to deal with socio-economic consequences of the pandemic.
