President Stevo Pendarovski visited today the exhibition “Roma Partisans – Photos and Biographies” by Daniel Petrovski, organized by the Association of Roma Folk Art Lovers, “Romano Ilo” – Skopje.
The exhibition presents 50 Roma fighters who participated in various brigades and divisions in the National Liberation struggle during the World War II. It is a presentation of the multi-year research of the author, a researcher dedicated to the Roma culture, as well as the Roma issue during the World War II.
Visiting the exhibition in Shuto Orizari, President Pendarovski had the opportunity to meet and talk with some of the families of the fighters and visitors to the exhibition.
The purpose of the exhibition is to confirm the commitment of the Roma fighters for the freedom of our country during the World War II. According to researches, at least 200 Roma partisans participated in the National Liberation Struggle. The topic “Roma Partisans” from the territory of our country is an important part of the history of the Roma that is not yet sufficiently promoted in public, but is in the collective memory of the community.
The exhibition was opened yesterday at the “Brothers Ramiz and Hamid” primary school in Shuto Orizari, while, on 7 November, it will be installed in the Topansko Pole, and, from 13 to 17 November, it will be open to visitors in the Museum of Macedonia.
